Program Presentation

The Specialization in Tourism Consultancy is a program that aims to develop strategic thinking and instill students with the methods of management, leadership and personal development needed by executives of the tourism industry. All of this is done within an international and multicultural context that provides experiences of academics and professionals.

The Specialization in Tourism Consultancy aims to provide answers to the challenges of the modern world, using the latest information technologies and communication, granting access to quality training.

The online course addresses the need to improve knowledge and skills from a professional perspective.

Who is the programme for?

The Tourism Consultancy Program is especially designed to satisfy two different types of groups:

  • Those with no previous academic degrees who wish to receive training in the area of tourism.
  • Those who are certified or professionals who wish to expand their career opportunities.

Diploma

Successful completion of the Program will enable you to be awarded the degree in Specialization in TOURISM CONSULTANCY.

After successfully completing the Program, the student will receive the degree as awarded by the University where they have enrolled.

Program Structure

The estimated length for completing the Tourism Consultancy program is 550 hours (55 credits).

  • Since it is a distance program and not subject to class attendance, a specific start date is not set so students may enroll at any time, provided there are spaces available.
  • For academic reasons, the program has a minimum duration of three months.
  • The maximum time available for completion of the program is one year. During this time, the student must have completed all assignments and a case study, and a Final Project in the cases of the Specialization, Post graduate or Expert degrees.

Objectives

General objectives:

  • To provide students with the necessary skills for interpretation of phenomena and events that occur in the field of tourism, both in terms of destinations and from business perspectives.

Specific objectives:

  • To become familiar with the tools capable of generating long term and consistent processes of sustainable tourism planning with its particular field of application.
  • To become familiar with the different functional areas of tourism business and their specific management tools.
  • To become familiar with the features of tourism management in an international context.
  • To identify the main forces that are driving the new model of travel and tourism as an alternative to traditional mass tourism.
  • To analyze how and why information society, new technologies and environmental awareness are influencing new business models in travel and tourism.

Career Opportunities

Some of the career opportunities of the Tourism Consultancy Program are the following:

  • Travel industry; travel agencies, tour operators and event planners.
  • Lodging and catering industry: hotels and hotel chains; mountain, ocean and country resorts, conference centers and resorts.
  • Tourism attractions and business facilities: art and cultural heritage; nature; amusement parks; fairs, conventions and expos; shopping; amusement; sports facilities.
  • Transport industry; airlines, bus and car rental companies, rail transport, shipping, ferry and cruise companies.
  • Tourism information and promotion: tourism offices; local, regional and national organizations; consumer organizations; tourism media; technical tourism information systems providers; consulting, research and counseling firms.

Study Plan

The Tourism Consultancy Program is made up of eleven subjects and, in the case of Specialization, Post graduate and Expert, of a Final Project.

  • 1ST PART: SUBJECTS

The first part teaches tourism economics; first, theoretical, conceptual and historical foundations involved in tourism activity and, second, organization, social and technological implementation.

The goal is for students to gain an overview of the tourism sector, through the different related multidisciplinary topics.

These subjects, despite being independent from each other, are structured according to a consistent pedagogical sequence that facilitates comprehension from simple to increasing complexity. Each subject is divided into basic theme units or chapters, the contents of which include printed material to be studied in order to satisfactorily answer the tests.

  • 2ND PART: FINAL PROJECT (100 HOURS)

In the cases of Specialization, Post graduate or Expert degrees, the last phase of the Program shall be devoted to the development of the Final Project, which can be done at the same time as the first part if the student prefers.

The Project should refer to some of the topics studied or to how they are related, both in theory as well as application.
