e-Business in Tourism Management

Program Presentation

The internet today is no longer an option, it is a business opportunity. Companies have ventured into innovative scenarios, creating new players and the use of new technologies.

This reality forces us to incorporate modern elements to generate or reconstruct processes according business needs; it implies discussing innovative business models, and the use of internet technology applied to business processes, while encompassing traditional "e-Business".

In this context, the Specialization of e-Business in Tourism Management aims to train professionals in developing strategies for e-business within the company’s strategic position in the information society. The program includes a strategic project that covers marketing, technology development, legal aspects, organizational change and innovation, knowledge management and organizational learning, among others.

Who is the programme for?

The proposed methodology and clear and diverse curriculum makes the Specialization in E-Business in Tourism Businesses program designed for people from different areas, with or without experience in the fields. The purpose is to extend and consolidate knowledge and its application in the work environment or to focus on a career in management of new technologies in the e-business area

Diploma

Successful completion of the Program will enable you to be awarded the degree in e-Business in Tourism Management.

After successfully completing the Program, the student will receive the degree as awarded by the University where they have enrolled.

Program Structure

The degree and estimated length of the E-Business in Tourism Businesses program, is 400 hours (40 credits)1.

Regarding the distribution of time it states that:

  • Since it is a distance program and not subject to class attendance, a specific start date is not set, so students may enroll at any time, provided there are spaces available.
  • For academic reasons the program has a minimum duration of three months.
  • The maximum time available for the completion of the program is nine months. During this time, the student must have completed all assignments, and a Final Project in the case of Specialization, Postgraduate or Expert Graduate degrees. In the case of anAssociate Degree, exempt from the Final Project, the maximum length is six months.

Objectives

General objectives:

  • To acquire the necessary knowledge for businesses or tourism organizations to incorporate use of new technologies and internet in their business processes. This includes all traditional processes capable of being developed over the internet with improvements in efficiency and cost.

Specific objectives:

  • To show the influence and impact of specific new technologies on the tourism industry.
  • To gain the necessary knowledge to interpret phenomena and events in the tourism field, from a destinations point of view as well as from a business perspective.
  • To define the main forces behind the new tourism model as an alternative to traditional mass tourism.
  • To analyze how and why the information society, new information technologies and environmental consequences, are influencing new models of tourism.
  • To learn to observe and detect essential business processes and generate an e-business strategy.

Career Opportunities

Some career opportunities for the Specialization in e-Business in Tourism Businesses program are:

  • E-business project management and business related to tourism activities.
  • Project director in technological businesses.
  • Project director in businesses based on technology.
  • External advisor or business consultant in business strategies based on an e-business approach applied to tourism.

Study Plan

The E-Business in Tourism Businesses program is made up of seven subjects and, in the case of Specialization, Postgraduate or Expert Graduate, of a Final Project.

  • 1ST PART: SUBJECTS

The first part teaches the concept of e-business, from its theoretical, conceptual and historical foundations, to its organizational, social and economic implementation.

The goal is for students to acquire a global view of online support for a tourism business along with strategies and e-business solutions.

These subjects, despite being independent, are self-contained and are structured according to a consistent teaching sequence. Each is divided into basic topics or chapters and the content includes printed material to be studied in order to satisfactorily answer the different assessment activities.

  • 2ND PART: FINAL PROJECT

In the case of Specialization, Postgraduate or Expert Graduate degrees, the last phase of the program is devoted to the Final Project, which can be carried out at the same times as the first part if the student prefers.

The Project should make reference to some of the fields studied or their relation, both theoretical as well as applied.
